Christmas Party / Games Evening and Physical Literacy
The Jamaican (Ottawa) Community Association Inc., hosted a Christmas party, Line-dance session and games
evening for its’ members and the wider Caribbean community on the 16th of December 2017, at Heartwood
House, 400 McArthur Street.

This three part event was very successful.  Not only did it host over 70 persons, it brought out many community
members who do not usually come out, as well as bringing new participants to the J(O)CA program.
The evening started with the regular program of welcome, with a short speech by the Jamaican High
Commissioner from Jamaica to Canada.  It proceed to entertainment and dinner.

The second and third part of the evening (Physical Literacy and Games) commenced together.  Ms. Tarrah
Mauricette of Caribbean Fit Fete spoke to the members in regards to physical literacy and ones’ health then she
showed the participants’ moves related to a line dance.  Everyone who participated enjoyed the session.  This
was very strategic in combining the dance with an established program as we saw new persons join and express
their interest in physical literacy.

The Third part of the evening was the games portion.  Members and guests played cards, dominoes and some
just reminisced about times past and the benefits of getting together.
